Windom senior Delaney Smith has captured one gold medal and will try for another later this afternoon at the Class A State Track and Field Meet.
Smith posted a throw of 43-2¾ on her third throw of the competition to capture the state shot put championship.
Smith moved into the lead with her third throw of the day, passing Monica Johnson of Kelliher-Northome-Blackduck, who ended as the runner-up with a throw of 42-11.
Smith will try for a second gold medal at 5 p.m., when the discus competition begins. Also at 5 p.m., Windom senior Gracie Bucher will run in the 400-meter dash.
Earlier in the day, Windom junior Dylan Serreyn cleared 6-0 and ended in a tie for 11th place in the boys high jump.
And on Thursday evening, Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey freshman finished in 17th place in the 3,200-meter run, registering a time of 10:36.46.
