Section 3AA Tourney

The Windom Eagle golf team will not have any participants in the Class AA State Tournament following Wednesday’s final day of the Section 3AA Tournament, played at Oakdale Golf Club in Buffalo Lake.

Windom senior Allie Ward finished the tournament in a tie for 22nd place, individually, after shooting a 100 during Wednesday’s final round. She finished the tournament with a score of 201.

Meanwhile, sophomore Greyson Elder finished in 29th place for the boys after duplicating his opening-round score of 84 during Wednesday’s finals, giving him a two-round score of 168.

In Wednesday’s final round, Ward began the day on Hole 10 at Oakdale and carded a 49 on the back nine. But Ward ran into difficulty over the final four holes on the front nine, finishing that side with a 51.

Elder’s second round progressed in similar fashion as his opening-day performance Tuesday, but Elder saw his success come on a different part of the Oakdale course. On Tuesday, Elder started on Hole 10 and shot a 46 on the back nine before rebounding with a 38 on the front nine. On Wednesday, Elder began on Hole 1 and shot a 46 on the front nine before roaring to life on the back nine, highlighted by an eagle on Hole 16. Elder finished with a 38 on the back nine to finish with an 84.

Minnewaska Area advanced as the girls’ team champion, while New London-Spicer captured the boys’ team championship.
