The Windom Pirates got another stellar pitching performance Wednesday night, but the offense needed to rally in extra innings to claim a 4-3, 12-inning victory over Fox Lake at Island Park.
The Pirates jumped to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Nick Christensen hit an RBI single and scored on an Alex Fink RBI double.
Fox Lake tied the game in the top of the fifth. The score remained tied until the top of the 12th, when the Foxes scored to take a 3-2 lead.
But in the bottom of the 12th, the Pirates answered. Fink walked, followed by consecutive singles from Noah Kloss and Kobe Lovell. Pinch hitter Devin Nielsen tied the game with an RBI single and Alex Borsgard was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, giving the Pirates a walk-off victory.
Fink led the Pirates with four hits in the game. Christensen added three hits and Kloss had two hits.
Luke Gilbertson worked six strong innings in his Pirates’ season debut, allowing two runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out six. Collin Lovell earned the pitching win in relief, working six innings. He allowed one run on five hits, walked one and struck out nine.
Pipestone at Mt. Lake, postponed
The Mt. Lake Lakers saw their second home game in the past two weeks postponed Wednesday night.
The Lakers learned a few hours before game time that their scheduled opponent, Pipestone, would not have enough players to field a full team Wednesday. As a result, the game was postponed. A make-up date has not yet been determined.
