Elder advances in Section 3AA golf

Section 3AA Boys Tourney

The Windom Eagle boys golf team had one player advance to the final day of the Section 3AA Tournament after the first day of the tourney was played Tuesday at Oakdale Golf Club near Buffalo Lake.

Sophomore Greyson Elder caught fire on the second nine with seven consecutive pars to record a 38 on the front half of the Oakdale course. Elder finished the day with an 84 to advance to the final day of the tourney, which will be played today at Oakdale.

The top five teams in the field advanced as a whole, while 25% of the individuals not on a qualifying team also advanced.

Windom finished in a three-way tie for 10th place in the tourney with a score of 351. New London-Spicer held the lead after the first day of the tourney, scoring a 310 for a one-stroke lead over Minnewaska Area.

Senior Parker Alvstad missed the cut by three strokes after shooting an 88 on the opening day of the tourney. Eighth-grader Carter Rossow shot an 89 and freshman Eli Lund added a 90 for the Eagles.

Section 2A Girls Tourney

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey junior Olivia Christians advanced to the second day of the Section 2A Tournament after firing an opening-day score of 110 Tuesday at North Links in Mankato.

That placed Christians in a tie for 12th place, individually, after the first day of the tournament.

Christians was the lone Wolverine player in the girls’ field Tuesday.

Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton led the team standings after the opening day of the tournament, scoring a 409.
