County board makes change for salary increases

Cottonwood County employees will see a change in when annual salary increases take effect, following action at Tuesday’s Commissioners meeting.

The board approved a memorandum of agreement with three unions and non-union employees.

The agreement allows for salary increases to take effect for the first pay period of a new year, even if some of the hours worked fall before the start of the new year.

The first county pay period of 2022 is paid on Jan. 7 for work done from Dec. 20, 2021 to Jan. 2, 2022.

The MOA allows for the county payroll department to not have to calculate hours at two different rates for a single pay period.

The MOA also states that county employees will be required to use any accumulated leave time prior to the start of the first pay period of the new year. That means county employees will need to use their leave time prior to Dec. 19.
