There were hugs, lots of smiles and a few tears as another class of Busy Bee Preschoolers received their certificates of completion Wednesday afternoon.
But this celebration was a bit different than those from the 56 prior years.
This was the last graduating class of Busy Bee Preschool.
Indeed, what began in the fall of 1964 has come to an end in 2021. The nonprofit preschool program, run by a volunteer organization, with paid instructors, has been getting 4- and 5-year-olds ready for kindergarten for six decades. It is believed to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest, preschool programs in Southwest Minnesota. However, with the program’s instructor for the past 22 years, Rhonda Miller, choosing to retire at the end of the current school year, it was decided to end the program.
