BSC Small School Meet
The Windom Eagle girls track and field team had a strong day on the track and in the throws, but it wasn’t enough to capture the title at the Big South Conference Small School Meet, held Friday in St. James.
A big day in the jumps propelled Redwood Valley’s girls to the meet victory with 118 points. Windom finished second with 100 points.
For the boys, Windom finished fifth with 47 points. Redwood Valley won the team title with 120 points.
Windom’s girls had three double-event individual champions at the meet. Senior Gracie Bucher claimed first in both the 400 (1:01.87) and 800 (2:33.88). Eighth-grader Kaylee Walklin took first in the 1,600 (5:25.09) and 3,200 (11:52.83). Senior Delaney Smith swept the shot put (44-1½) and discus (125-8).
Senior Jadyn Wormstadt added a victory in the high jump (5-0).
The Eagles were particularly strong in the 1,600, sweeping the top three spots. After Walklin, Haidyn Sammons was second (5:59.58) and Erika Lopez took third (6:03.84).
Lucy Stevens added third-place finishes in the 200 (28.68) and 400 (1:04.65). Haidyn Sammons was fourth in the 800 (2:45.23). Hadley Sammons was fourth in the 200 (29.10). Ella Wilde placed fourth in the 100 hurdles (20.63).
The Eagle team of Bucher, Walklin, Hannah Dauer and Stevens added a win in the 4×400 relay (4:20.93) while the team of Lopez, Kendyl Sammons, Victoria Robillard and Brooklyn Flaherty placed second in the 4×800 relay (11:31.84).
The Eagle boys were led by double-event champion Dylan Serreyn, who took first in the high jump (5-8) and triple jump (40-11).
Alex Altman added a runner-up finish in the shot put (42-3) and was third in the discus (122-7). Cameron Alm placed third in the 400 (54.32). Jose Rodas took fourth in the discus (108-3). Windom’s team of Chance Elness, Teigen Wormstadt, Eli Bordewyk and Aaden Nauman took second in the 4×800 relay (9:12.25).
