Pirates blank reigning state champs

Windom 011 010 100 = 4-13-3
Fairmont 000 000 000 = 0-5-0

After helping the Fairmont Martins win the Class C state championship last season as a draftee, Windom Pirate pitcher Collin Lovell completely shut down the Martins lineup Wednesday night, leading the Pirates to a 4-0 victory at Fairmont.

Lovell held the Martins to five hits and struck out 15 batters without a walk in the complete-game victory.

Offensively, the Pirates had 13 hits in the game and picked up the win despite leaving 11 runners on base.

In the top of the second, Joel Riordan gave Windom the lead with an RBI single.

Kobe Lovell added an RBI single in the third inning. Kyle Espenson stretched the lead to 3-0 with an RBI single in the fifth and added an RBI double in the seventh.

Kobe Lovell and Espenson had four hits each in the win. Alex Borsgard added a pair of hits.
