Eagles’ Ward advances in section tourney

Section 3AA Girls Tourney

The Windom Eagle girls golf team had one player advance to the final day of the Section 3AA Tournament after the first day of the tourney was played Wednesday at Oakdale Golf Club near Buffalo Lake.

Senior Allie Ward shot a 101 on the opening day to advance to the final day of the tourney, which will be played Wednesday at Oakdale.

The top five teams in the field advanced as a whole, while 25% of the individuals not on a qualifying team also advanced.

Windom placed 11th in the team standings with a score of 436. Minnewaska/Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa led the team standings after the opening day of the tournament with a score of 345.

Windom senior Lily Mellstrom missed the cut to advance by a single stroke, finishing the tourney with a 103. Ada Lund shot a 114 and Maddie Alvstad finished with a 118.

The first day of the boys tournament, which was scheduled for Thursday, was postponed until Tuesday due to rain.

Section 3A Girls Tourney

Westbrook-Walnut Grove’s girls golf team advanced to the final day of the Section 3A Golf Tournament after finishing third on the opening day of the tourney Wednesday at Great Life Golf Course in Worthington.

The Charger girls shot a first-day total of 459. Adrian-Ellsworth led the team competition with a first-day score of 411. Red Rock Central did not field a complete team on the opening day of the tourney. The top four teams and 25% of the individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to the finals.

Individually for WWG, senior Lexi Herding led the way with a 102, putting her in sixth place overall. Emma Wahl shot a 114, followed by Madison Martin with a 118 and Ivy Paplow with a 125.

RRC did not have any individuals advance to the final day of the tournament. Carlee Sell led RRC with a 118, followed by Bailey Timm with a 126 and Aryanna Weber with a 143.

Section 3A Boys Tourney

Red Rock Central has two boys who advanced to the final day of the Section 3A GolfTournament and Westbrook-Walnut Grove has one, following the opening round of the tournament Wednesday at Great Life Golf Course in Worthington.

RRC finished ninth in the team standings with a score of 411. WWG was 11th with a 414. Adrian-Ellsworth led the team competition after the first day of the tourney with a 360. The top four teams and 25% of the individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to the finals.

Individually, RRC seniors Justin Klabunde and Mason Gode each qualified for the final day of the tourney. Klabunde shot a 97, placing him 17th, individually, while Gode was tied for 20th with a 99. Matthew Horning shot a 102 and Damon Holmen added a 113.

WWG senior Nathan Kuehl also advanced to the second day of the tourney, shooting a 99 to finish tied for 20th place overall. Neil Kuehl shot a 103, followed by Kole Curry with a 105 and Hunter Lien with a 107.
