Falcons top Rebels; Wolverines fall Tuesday

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove didn’t have many hits, but had plenty of baserunners and was aggressive on the basepaths Tuesday, running away with an 11-1 victory over Murray County Central in Sanborn.

The Falcons tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second when Isabella Rentschler scored on a double steal.

In the third, the Falcons took the lead for good on a Mercedes Myers sacrifice fly and a wild pitch.

The Falcons added a run in the fifth on a Myers RBI single.

RRC/WWG then ended the game in the bottom of the sixth, plating seven runs. The Falcons scored four runs on double steals, Nora Hemmingsen had an RBI groundout, Bianca Weis hit an RBI triple and scored the game-ending run on a wild pitch.

Nicole Schroepfer earned the pitching win, allowing one run on five hits. She walked one and struck out seven.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey couldn’t keep pace with a high-powered Springfield offense Tuesday afternoon, as the Tigers rolled to a 16-2 victory at Mt. Lake.

The Tigers used a three-run home run to jump to an early lead, then scored five in the second and eight in the third to seal the win.

MLAC scored its first run in the bottom of the first. Jaci Tollefson led off with a bunt single, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on an Alana Morey groundout.

In the third, Anika Brinkman reached on a fielder’s choice, moved to second on a groundout and scored on a Brooke Naas RBI single.

Morey took the pitching loss for the Wolveirnes, allowing eight runs on seven hits in 3-1/3 innings. She walked two and struck out one.
