Falcons edge Jaguars; Rebels top MLAC

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove used a three-run fifth inning to take the lead, then turned it over to the defense to preserve a 4-3 victory over Renville County West Tuesday in Lamberton.

RRC/WWG tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first on a Mason Irlbeck RBI groundout.

The Falcons then took the lead in the fifth. Dan Kleven drew a bases-loaded walk and two runs scored when Irlbeck reached on an error.

RCW cut the Falcon lead to 4-3 in the top of the sixth, but a strikeout ended the threat. A strikeout with the potential tying run on base in the top of the seventh ended the game.

Luke Willhite had two hits for the Falcons in the win.

Irlbeck picked up the pitching win, working six strong innings. He allowed three runs on two hits, walked four and struck out 13. Ashton Juhnke pitched a hitless seventh to earn a save.

Murray County Central used an 11-run second inning to take a commanding lead Tuesday, cruising to a 15-5 victory over Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey in Slayton.

The Rebels sent 17 hitters to the plate in the second inning.

MLAC tried to mount a comeback, scoring twice in the third inning on a Landon Boldt groundout and a Sebastian Rehnelt RBI single.

Trailing 15-2 in the fifth, MLAC plated three runs. Alex Blom hit a two-run single and Sam Stade hit an RBI single. The Wolverines had the bases loaded with a threat to extend the game, but a strikeout ended the threat.

Tanner Koetzle and Adam Veerkamp had two hits each for the Wolverines.

Blom took the pitching loss, allowing 11 runs on eight hits in two innings. He walked four and struck out three.
