A tough field and a tougher golf course had their way with the Windom Eagle golf teams Monday.
For the first time, the Big South Conference Meet was played at Dacotah Ridge near Morton.
And while warm weather and relatively calm winds proved to be a positive for players, the challenging course and talented field left the Eagles scrambling.
Windom’s boys finished 10th in the 12-team field, scoring a 372. Blue Earth Area won the team title with a score of 324.
The Eagle girls finished 11th with a score of 463. Fairmont won the team title, scoring a 373.
Individually for the Eagle boys, senior Parker Alvstad and eighth-grader Carter Rossow saw their day progress in similar fashion.
Both started on the back nine at Dacotah Ridge and had their struggles before rebounding on the front nine.
Alvstad shot a 43 on the front nine, finishing with a team-best 90 for the day. Meanwhile, Rossow scored a 44 on the front nine, giving him a 91.
Eli Lund added a 95 and Landon Pillatzki finished with a 96.
The Eagle girls played during the morning session. Like her male counterparts, senior Allie Ward had a similar day.
Ward had a rough time on the difficult back nine, but regrouped with a 50 on the front nine, finishing the day with a 104. Lily Mellstrom shot a 113, followed by Ada Lund with a 115 and Maddie Alvstad with a 131.
