Pirates roll past Engineers Sunday

The Windom Pirates improved to 4-0 on the season Sunday afternoon with a strong offensive showing, defeating the Tracy Engineers 14-2 at Tracy.

The Pirates pounced on Tracy pitching early, scoring on a two-run Brett Willaby single in the top of the second.

Windom ran the lead to 6-0 in the third. Kobe Lovell, Dane Nielsen and Jack Mellstrom had RBI singles and a run scored on a throwing error.

In the fourth, Alex Fink launched a solo home run and Mellstrom added an RBI single for an 8-2 lead. The Pirates added a run on an error in the fifth, then plated five runs in the sixth. Willaby and Fink each hit a two-run double and Noah Kloss added an RBI single.

Fink and Mellstrom had three hits each in the win. Willaby and Kloss added two hits each.

Ross Ackerman earned the pitching win, allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out nine.

The Mt. Lake Lakers dropped a pair of games against Gopher League foes Sunday afternoon, falling 5-1 at Adrian and 9-0 at Luverne.

In the opener at Adrian, the Lakers got on the scoreboard in the top of the first. Kolby Kremmin led off with a single, stole second and scored on a Lucas Anderson single.

But the Lakers were completely shut down the rest of the way, with only three more baserunners in the game. Tylor Duerksen had a fourth-inning single, Levi Jahnke singles in the sixth and Peyton Engleking drew a seventh-inning walk.

Adrian scored twice in the bottom of the first, then added a run in the fifth and two in the sixth for the win.

Wyatt Stevens took the pitching loss, allowing five runs on 13 hits. He walked one and struck out three.

In the nightcap at Luverne, the Lakers couldn’t mount much offense against Luverne, falling 9-0.

The Lakers drew six walks in the game, but had only two hits. The best scoring threat came in the fourth inning, when the Lakers loaded the bases with walks but could not score.

Luverne plated six runs in the third inning and three in the fifth.

Anderson and Duerksen had the lone Laker hits in the loss.

Jon Faber took the pitching loss, allowing six runs on seven hits in four innings. He walked five and struck out three.
