Eagle fastpitch earns sweep

The Windom Eagle fastpitch team saw the bats come to life early Thursday, as the Eagles cruised to a doubleheader sweep over Blue Earth Area at Blue Earth, winning 18-8 and 12-2.

In the opener, the Eagles sent 19 hitters to the plate in the top of the first inning, scoring 14 runs. Key hits in the inning were an Allison Letcher RBI double, a two-run Kait Huska single, a two-run triple from Jenna Veenker and a two-run double from Aubri Spielman.

BEA battled back, scoring a run in the third and seven runs in the fourth, but the Eagles put the game away with four runs in the top of the sixth. Letcher was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Camryn Elness drew a bases-loaded walk, Jenna Brockman hit an RBI sacrifice fly and the final run scored on a throwing error.

Huska and Letcher had two hits each for the Eagles.

Jenna Veenker picked up the pitching win, working the first 3-2/3 innings. She allowed eight runs on seven hits, walked six and struck out one.

In the nightcap, the Eagles scored in each of their four trips to the plate, picking up a 12-2 win.

Windom tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first on an Elness RBI groundout.

In the second, the Eagles took the lead for good. Kameron Rupp scored on a fielding error, Spielman plated a run with a groundout and Elness hit an RBI double.

In the third, Rylie Raverty hit an RBI groundout and Spielman and Letcher hit back-to-back RBI singles, giving Windom a 7-1 lead.

The Eagles finished their scoring in the fourth, with two runs scoring on an error and one on a passed ball. Spielman added an RBI sacrifice fly and Letcher hit an RBI single.

Letcher finished with four hits in the win.

Alexa O’Donnell picked up her first career pitching win, allowing two runs on five hits. She walked one and struck out two.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey raced to an early lead and never looked back Thursday, toppling Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda 13-3 at Mt. Lake.

The Wolverines got on the board in the bottom of the first on an Ella Dockter RBI double.

MLAC then plated six runs in the bottom of the second. Four runs scored on a string of Coyote errors and Kayleigh Schumann smacked a two-run double.

HLOF battled back with three runs in the fourth inning, but the Wolverines took a 10-3 lead in the bottom of the inning. Schumann hit a two-run single and Kaylie Baerg added an RBI double.

The Wolverines then ended the game in the fifth. Alana Morey hit a two-run single and Schumann ended the game with an RBI single.

Schumann had three hits and five RBI in the win. Morey added three hits for the Wolverines.

Morey earned the complete-game pitching victory, scattering five hits. She walked two and struck out four.
