Wolverines earn walk-off win

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey saw an early lead slip away Tuesday, but the Wolverines rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim an 11-10 walk-off win over Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain at Mt. Lake.

The Jaguars scored twice in the top of the first, but the Wolverines answered with a four-run bottom of the inning. Presley Dockter drew a bases-loaded walk, Brooke Naas scored on a wild pitch, Kaylie Baerg plated a run with a groundout and Dockter scored on a wild pitch.

T/ML/GHEC regained the lead with four runs in the top of the second, but the Wolverines answered again, plating five runs in the bottom of the inning. Naas hit an RBI single, Dockter and Kayleigh Schumann were each hit by pitches with the bases loaded, Baerg drew a bases-loaded walk and Schumann scored on a wild pitch.

The Jaguars gained a 10-9 lead with four runs in the top of the fifth, but the Wolverines rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning. Anika Brinkman hit a leadoff single, advanced to third on a Jaci Tollefson single and scored when Naas reached on an error. Alana Morey then drove in the winning run on a fielder’s choice.

Tollefson, Naas and Morey each had two hits in the win for the Wolverines.

Morey picked up the pitching victory, working three innings of shutout relief. She allowed two hits, walked one and struck out one.

Sleepy Eye’s offense capitalized on nine hits, nine walks and eight errors Tuesday afternoon as the Indians rolled past Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove 19-4 at Sleepy Eye.

The Falcons struck first, scoring in the top of the first on a Sondra Rindfleisch RBI single.

But Sleepy Eye scored three runs in the bottom of the first and four in the second to take a 7-1 lead.

The Falcons cut the deficit to 7-4 in the third. Rindfleisch smashed a two-run double and Isabella Rentschler scored on the back end of a double steal.

But the Indians added a pair of runs in the third, then ended the game with a 10-run fourth inning.

Rindfleisch and Nicole Schroepfer had two hits each in the loss.

Addison Jenniges took the pitching loss, allowing nine runs on five hits in three innings. She walked seven and struck out three.
