Eagles erupt late against Wolverines

The Windom Eagle bats came to life in the late innings Tuesday afternoon, scoring 20 unanswered runs to claim a 20-2 victory over Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey in Mt. Lake.

MLAC got on the board first, scoring in the bottom of the first inning. With one out and runners on the corners, the Wolverines executed a double steal, with Sam Pidde scoring. When the throw home went to the backstop, Kolby Kremmin raced from second to home, giving the Wolverines a 2-0 lead.

But it was all Eagles after that. Windom tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third, scoring on a wild pitch and on a Conner Redman sacrifice fly.

Windom took the lead with a six-run fifth inning. Windom scored two runs on errors, Austin Doorenbos hit a two-run double, Kade Sammons plated a run with a sacrifice fly and Brayden Kreofsky scored on a wild pitch.

In the sixth, Sammons lined a two-run triple and scored on an error.

The Eagles then erupted for nine runs in the top of the seventh. Sammons hit a two-run single, Brady Espenson had a two-run double and Zach Espenson hit an RBI single in the inning.

Doorenbos, Sammons, Brady Espenson and Alex Espenson had two hits each for the Eagles.

Ian Penner had the only hit of the game for the Wolverines.

Chayton Struck picked up his first career varsity pitching win for the Eagles, working two innings of no-hit relief. He walked one and struck out three.

Alex Blom took the loss for the Wolverines, allowing eight runs on four hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out one.
