Falcons blank Lakers

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove turned in a dominant performance Friday, rolling to a 10-0 victory over Lakeview at Cottonwood.

Pitcher Nicole Schroepfer tossed a one-hit shutout in the win. She walked four and struck out seven. The lone hit allowed was a leadoff single in the third inning.

The Falcon offense was ready from the start. Mercedes Myers hit an RBI triple and Amelia Sickel scored on a Bianca Weis groundout, giving the Falcons a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

The Falcons added four runs in the second, as Schroepfer ripped a two-run double and Myers followed with a two-run single.

In the third, Avery Schoer and Schroepfer RBI singles for an 8-0 lead.

Then, in the fifth, Amsden ripped an RBI triple and scored on a passed ball.

Five Falcons had two hits each in the win.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey couldn’t rally from an early deficit Friday as the Wolverines fell 14-4 at Sleepy Eye.

Sleepy Eye took control of the game early, sending 14 hitters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning to score 10 runs.

The Wolverines briefly held a 2-0 lead, as Brooke Naas hit an RBI single and Alana Morey ripped an RBI double.

The Wolverines trimmed the deficit to 10-4 in the third inning on a two-run Presley Dockter single.

But Sleepy Eye ended the game by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Jaci Tollefson, Naas and Kayleigh Schumann each had two hits for the Wolverines.

Naas took the pitching loss, allowing 10 runs on nine hits in four innings. She walked four.
