Fast start lifts Eagles past MLAC

The Windom Eagle fastpitch team started fast and had a strong defensive showing Monday, claiming a 7-2 victory over Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey at the Windom Recreation Area.

The Eagles plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning, sending 10 hitters to the plate. Allison Letcher got Windom on the board with a leadoff single. She advanced on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on a throwing error.

Jenna Veenker added an RBI double and Elliot Espenson had a two-run single, giving Windom the 4-0 lead.

The Wolverines plated a run in the top of the second on a Sabrina Hanson RBI single, but the Eagles added a pair of runs in the fourth. Letcher scored on the back end of a double steal and Jenna Brockman slashed an RBI single.

Windom added its final run in the fifth as Letcher hit an RBI single.

The Wolverines scored their final run in the sixth as Kayleigh Schumann ripped an RBI double.

Brockman led the Eagles with three hits. Letcher, Kait Huska and Espenson had two hits each.

Jaci Tollefson and Schumann had two hits each for MLAC.

Veenker earned the pitching win, scattering seven hits. She walked two and struck out six.

Alana Morey took the pitching loss, allowing 11 hits and two walks while fanning one.
