Shorthanded Wolverines, Chargers run Friday

MLAC Meet

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey and Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central were both shorthanded Friday, allowing Southwest Christian/Edgerton to cruise to a sweep of the team titles at a triangular track meet, held at Mt. Lake.

SWCE won the girls meet with 124 points. MLAC scored 29 and WWG/RRC had 27.

For the boys, SWCE won the team title with 104 points. MLAC scored 64 and WWG/RRC had 12.

MLAC was shorthanded due to COVID-related issues, as well as a school play, while WWG/RRC was missing several participants because of a senior class trip for WWG.

Individually, MLAC’s boys were led by a pair of double-event winners. Cayden LaPointe captured wins in the 110 hurdles (17.75) and 300 hurdles (45.33). Jordan Toll added wins in the 100 dash (11.85) and 200 dash (24.96). Kody Wassman placed first in the 800 (2:12.77) and second in the 1,600 (4:53.77).

MLAC added wins in the 4×100 relay (48.87) and 4×200 relay (1:43.69).

Ben Nachreiner added a runner-up finish in the 100 dash (11.95). Wyatt Wall finished second in the shot put (38-11).

WWG/RRC’s boys were led by Zak Zimmerman, who placed second in the 200 dash (25.44) and third in the 100 dash (12.25).

MLAC’s girls were led by Haily Green, who placed first in the 300 hurdles (54.22) and third in the 100 hurdles (18.74). Lana Kestner was second in the 400 dash (1:06.18). Julia Brinkman finished second in the 200 dash (29.52).

WWG/RRC’s girls were led by Kelsey DeSmith, who won the high jump (4-6) and was third in the 200 (29.82). Abby Wiggins added a win in the pole vault (7-6). Theresa Nwaiga was second in the 800 (2:48.62).
