The Windom Pirates opened the 2021 First Nite League season with a dominant pitching performance, rolling to a 16-0 victory over Fox Lake at Truman.
Pirate starting pitcher Collin Lovell held the Foxes to three hits over six innings of work, striking out 15. Reliever Ross Ackerman pitched the final three innings of no-hit ball, striking out seven.
Windom got the only run it would need in the top of the first on an Alex Fink solo home run. Windom added a run in the second on a Jeremy O’Donnell RBI single.
In the fourth, the Pirates scored two runs on errors.
It stayed a 4-0 game until the eighth, when the Pirates plated four runs. O’Donnell and Brett Willaby hit RBI singles. Dane Nielsen plated a run when he was hit by a pitch and the Pirates added a run on an error.
Windom put the game away with eight runs in the top of the ninth. Ackerman hit an RBI single, Joseph Torres and Willaby drew bases-loaded walks, Dane Nielsen hit an RBI single and Fink and Devin Nielsen each hit a two-run double.
Fink and O’Donnell had three hits each in the win.

Heron Lake 020 000 00x = 2-9-2
The Mt. Lake Lakers couldn’t get the bats going in their First Nite League season opener Sunday, falling 2-0 to the Heron Lake Lakers in Heron Lake.
Heron Lake held Mt. Lake to two hits in the game.
Heron Lake scored both its runs on a Logan Knutson single in the second inning.
Zach Spinks and Rhinley Kazuma had the Lakers’ hits in the game.
Jon Faber took the complete game pitching loss, allowing two runs on nine hits. He walked two and struck out seven.
