Council weighs fire user fee vs. tax increase

A plan to possibly increase Windom fire call fees from the current rate of $1,000 per fire, up to $2,000 is under consideration by the Windom City Council.

The plan, which has not yet been approved, would be an alternative to raising citywide taxes to cover fire equipment and truck costs. The potential new system also calls for a $500 fee for false alarms and $1,000 for car accidents. It was described at last week’s council meeting as a “work in progress” by Fire Chief Ben Derickson.
