Arrows top Eagles in extra innings

The lead slipped away twice in the late innings for the Windom Eagle baseball team Thursday, as Pipestone rallied for a 7-6 eight-inning victory at Pipestone.

The Eagles jumped to an early lead, scoring in the top of the first on a two-run Brady Espenson double. The Eagles took a 3-1 lead in the third on an Espenson RBI single and took a 4-2 lead in the fifth when Austin Doorenbos scored on a throwing error.

In the top of the seventh, the Eagles took a 5-3 lead when Alex Espenson led off with a double and scored when Kade Sammons reached on an error. But in the bottom of the inning, the Arrows tied the game with a double steal and an RBI single.

The Eagles regained the lead in the top of the eighth when Hunter Walklin plated a run with a groundout. But in the bottom of the eighth, Pipestone scored a run on a fielder’s choice, then earned the win with a walk-off RBI single.

Brady Espenson had three hits and three RBI in the loss. Alex Espenson finished with two hits.

Conner Redman took the pitching loss, allowing two runs on one hit in 1-1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out two.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove had a strong pitching performance and solid hitting Thursday, claiming a 9-1 victory over Edgerton-Southwest Christian at Westbrook.

The Falcons scored seven runs in the first three innings to take command of the game.

Mason Irlbeck hit an RBI single and later scored on an error in the bottom of the first. In the second, Luke Willhite and Sam Kleven hit RBI singles and a run scored on an error. Then, in the third, two runs scored when Irlbeck reached on an error.

Irlbeck added an RBI single in the fifth. In the sixth, Dominik Smith led off with a solo home run.

Irlbeck, Kleven, Smith and Orion Knakmuhs each had two hits in the win.

Irlbeck earned the pitching win, allowing one run on one hit in five innings. He walked three and struck out 11.

Adrian-Ellsworth’s offense proved too much for Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey to overcome Thursday, as the Dragons rolled to a 24-5 victory at Adrian.

AE smashed 11 hits and drew 16 walks at the plate, as Wolverine pitchers struggled to find the strike zone throughout.

The Wolverines scored twice in the fourth inning, as Sebastian Rehnelt hit an RBI single and Alex Blom scored on an error.

In the top of the fifth, Cayden Moody and Rehnelt hit RBI singles and a run scored on a passed ball.

Rehnelt and Ian Penner each had two hits for the Wolverines.

Adam Veerkamp took the pitching loss, allowing nine runs on two hits and seven walks in two-thirds of an inning. He struck out two.
