The Windom Eagle softball team ran into a buzzsaw Thursday afternoon as a high-powered Pipestone squad swept a Big South Conference doubleheader from the Eagles 19-2 and 16-6 at the Windom Recreation Area.
In the opening game, the Arrows built a 5-0 lead, then blew the game open with a 10-run fourth inning.
The Eagles scored their only runs in the bottom of the fourth. Kait Huska drove in a run with a single and Elliot Espenson ripped an RBI double.
The Eagles were held to four hits in the game, with Jenna Brockman recording two. Ellie Maricle took the pitching loss, allowing 18 hits while striking out three.
In the nightcap, the Eagles briefly held the lead after a three-run third inning, but Pipestone scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth, eventually claiming a 16-6 win.
Trailing 2-0 in the top of the third, the Eagles rallied. Rylie Raverty hit an RBI double and scored when Maricle reached on an error. Huska then drove in a run with a fielder’s choice.
After the Arrows took the lead back with an eight-run fourth, the Eagles tried to rally. Jenna Veenker hit an RBI single and Huska scored on an error in the top of the fifth. Then, in the sixth, Camryn Elness hit an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 13-6.
But the Arrows scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, ending the game.
Kameron Rupp and Elness each had two hits in the loss.
Veenker took the pitching loss, allowing 15 hits and five walks.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey hammered out 11 hits and took advantage of eight errors Thursday, cruising to an 11-1 victory over Adrian-Ellsworth at Mt. Lake.
The Wolverines took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Jaci Tollefson scored on an error and Brooke Naas scored on the back end of a double steal.
In the second, the Wolverines added three runs. Tollefson ripped an RBI single and scored when Kennedie Simon reached on an error. Naas followed with an RBI double for a 5-0 lead.
Tollefson added an RBI single in the third. Then, in the bottom of the fourth, Anika Brinkman hit a two-run double, Tollefson followed with an RBI double and two runs scored on errors.
Tollefson finished with four hits and three RBI. Alana Morey added three hits.
Simon earned the pitching win, scattering six hits without a walk. She struck out three.

ESWC 161 02 = 10-11-0
Edgerton-Southwest Christian used a big inning to stake itself to the lead, claiming a 10-0 victory over Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Thursday in Edgerton.
The Dutchmen scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning, taking a 7-0 lead at the time. ESWC added a run in the third, then walked off with a pair of runs in the fifth.
Avery Schoer had two of the Falcons’ three hits in the loss.
Nicole Schroepfer took the pitching loss, allowing 11 hits and eight walked while fanning three.
