Eagles blank Saints; Falcons roll past Wolverines

The Windom Eagle baseball team picked up its first win of the season in dominant fashion Tuesday, racing to an early lead and claiming a 12-0 five-inning win at St. James.

The Eagles had just six hits in the win, but drew 11 walks. Windom blew the game open in the top of the first inning, plating seven runs. The key hit of the inning was a bases-clearing triple from Kade Sammons. Windom also scored on two bases-loaded walks and an error.

Ethan Pohlman added an RBI single in the fourth and Hunter Walklin plated a run with a fielder’s choice. Then, in the fifth, Brayden Kreofsky and Brady Espenson had back-to-back RBI singles and a run scored on a wild pitch.

Sammons and Austin Doorenbos combined to pitch a one-hit shutout. Sammons worked the first three innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out six. Doorenbos struck out four in two innings of relief.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove erupted in the late innings Tuesday afternoon, scoring 15 unanswered runs on its way to a 17-2 five-inning victory over Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey in Mt. Lake.

The Falcons plated a pair of runs in the top of the first on a two-run Sam Kleven single.

MLAC answered in the second, with Alex Blom recording a single, stealing second and scoring on an Adam Veerkamp single.

In the top of the third, the Wolverines tied the game when Sam Pidde reached on a two-base error, took third on a Tanner Koetzle single and scored on the back end of a double steal.

But the Falcons broke the game open with seven runs in the top of the fourth. Dominik Smith hit a two-run single, Ashton Juhnke drew a bases-loaded walk, Orion Knakmuhs hit an RBI single and Luke Willhite followed with a two-run single. The Falcons added a run on an error.

In the fifth, the Falcons put the game away with eight runs, with three scoring on errors.

Cory Anderson and Kleven had two hits each for the Falcons.

Willhite picked up the pitching win, allowing two runs on four hits in 4-1/3 innings. He struck out six.

Alex Blom took the loss for the Falcons, allowing six runs on one hit in one-third of an inning. He walked four and hit a batter.
