Despite a pandemic year, Windom’s speech team saw its cream rise to the top during Saturday’s Section 3A Speech Tournament.
After qualifying nine individuals for the section tournament, five captured medals and four of those five earned trips to Saturday’s Class A State Speech Tournament.
The state tournament, like the section tournament, will be a virtual live competition with all students competing via a social media platform from their schools.
“We’re very happy and so proud of them,” said Windom speech coach Lisa Letcher. “They’ve been working very hard. Their dedication and commitment to speech is very strong and I’m very happy they’re rewarded for all their hard work.”
The top three speakers in each category advance to state.
Punching their tickets to Saturday’s state tournament are sophomore Makenna McNamara, who was the section champion in original oratory; seniors Allison Letcher and Parker Alvstad, who were runners-up in original oratory and creative expression, respectively; and junior Dora Larson, who was second in informative speaking.
