Federated Rural Electric of Jackson is going to host a COVID-safe cleanup day at Kilen Woods State Park, located near Lakefield.
The tentative spring cleanup day is scheduled for May 1 from 9 a.m. until noon, when electric cooperative employees, customers and the general public will work in various parks throughout the state. Volunteers will clean picnic shelters, fix existing structures, pick up branches and debris and clean litter on the trails.
A $10 Subway gift card will be given to each volunteer at noon, rather than a group lunch.
At Kilen Woods, projects planned for volunteers include: picking up litter, trimming branches, scooping out campfire pits, raking tent sites and the campground area, painting the amphitheater seats and sign posts, cleaning the picnic shelter and office building, picking up fallen branches and scraping and painting picnic tables.
Volunteers do not need to be a Federated REA member. However, volunteers do need to RSVP by noon on April 30 so enough Subway cards are ordered. To register, e-mail to info@federatedrea.coop, or call (507) 847-3520 or (800) 321-3520, extension 2224. Volunteers receive free access to the park for the day.
