Eagles at St. Peter
The Windom Eagle track and field team opened the 2021 season in chilly conditions Friday at the St. Peter Invitational.
The Eagle girls finished fourth in the five-team meet with 55½ points. Waseca won the team title with 83½ points. Windom was fifth in the boys’ standings with 30 points. St. Peter won the team title with 82½ points.
Friday was another record-setting day for Windom senior Delaney Smith, who broke her own school record in the girls shot put, winning the event with a throw of 43 feet. Smith also won the discus with a toss of 114-4.
Lucy Stevens added a win in the 200-meter dash (30.60). Kaylee Walklin placed first in the 3,200 (12:40.37). Jadyn Wormstadt placed first in the high jump (5-0). Hadley Sammons took second in the 1,600 (6:35.41). Gracie Bucher was third in the 800 (2:41.78). Windom added runner-up finishes in the 4×200 (2:04.39), 4×400 (4:46.50) and 4×800 (12:03.69).
For the boys, junior Dylan Serreyn opened the season strong, winning the high jump (5-8) and long jump (19-0).
Alex Altman placed second in the discus (106-7) and third in the shot put (38-9).
