Eagle boys surge past Panthers in playoffs; MLAC, WWG win

TMB 32-27 = 59
Windom 47-38 = 85

The Windom Eagle boys basketball team blew the game open at the end of the first half and early in the second half Thursday, rolling to an 85-59 win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in the Section 3AA playoffs at Windom.

The Eagles closed the first half with a 16-4 run, taking a 15-point halftime lead. Windom then started the second half with a 14-2 burst. The Eagles shot 55% from the field for the game, hitting 10 three-pointers.

Conner Redman led the Eagles with 27 points. Dylan Serreyn finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sam Doorenbos and Austin Doorenbos each scored 11. Henry Erickson finished just shy of a triple-double, finishing with eight points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists.

MLAC 20-27 = 47
T/ML/GHEC 18-23 = 41

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey turned in a stifling defensive effort Thursday night as the sixth-seeded Wolverines upended third-seeded Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain 47-41 in the Section 2A playoffs at Truman.

The Wolverines forced the Jaguars into 16 turnovers and made it difficult for T/ML/GHEC to get the ball inside. Meanwhile, a trio of second-half three-pointers gave the Wolverine offense a spark, allowing MLAC to overcome a shaky night from the free throw line.

Jordan Toll led the Wolverines with 16 points. Carter Olson added nine points and Kolby Kremmin scored eight in the win.

RRC 19-27 = 46
WWG 39-24 = 63

Westbrook-Walnut Grove got off to a hot start from the outside Thursday night, building a 20-point halftime lead on its way to a 63-46 victory over Red Rock Central in the Section 3A playoffs at Westbrook.

The Chargers hit seven first-half three-pointers and shot just under 50% from the field as a team for the game. The hot shooting early staked WWG to a 20-point halftime lead.

RRC’s comeback bid was thwarted by a 6-of-13 night from the free throw line.

Ethan Mischke led WWG with 19 points. Cole VanDeWiele added 14 points – all in the first half. Hunter Lien scored nine points in the win.

Joe Strock paced RRC with nine points. Justin Klabunde added eight points in the loss.
