One of the major high school winter sports events of the season will take place in Windom Saturday.
Windom Area High School will host the Section 2A/3A Individual Super Regional Tournament, with action beginning at 10 a.m.
Four wrestlers from each section at each weight class advanced from section tournaments earlier in the week. Each weight class will wrestle a double-elimination bracket. First-round matches Saturday will place the highest-seeded remaining wrestler from each section against the lowest-seeded remaining wrestler from the other section, down through the bracket. True-second matches will be wrestled if the third-place finisher at each weight had not previously lost to the runner-up.
The top two finishers in each weight class advance to a modified Class A State Tournament, which will be held at St. Michael-Albertville High School on March 27. Both team and individual competition will be held on March 27, with four qualifying teams and eight individuals at each weight class.
Locally, the Windom-Mt. Lake team has three individuals who advanced from Tuesday’s Section 3A Tournament to compete Saturday. Red Rock Central has four individual qualifiers.
