Luverne’s relentless offense wore down the Windom Area girls hockey team Saturday as the Cardinals claimed a 10-2 victory at the Windom Arena.
Luverne jumped to a 3-0 lead, but the Eagles answered to close the first period. Presley Dockter intercepted a pass and scored a shorthanded breakaway, cutting the Cardinal lead to 3-1. Then, Dockter picked off another pass, wove through the Cardinal defense and left a pass for Elly Bang to knock a shot into a nearly empty net, cutting the Cardinal lead to 3-2 after one period.
But Luverne regrouped, scoring four goals in the second period and three more in the third to seal the win.
Luverne outshot the Eagles 38-23 in the game. Goalie Bethany Schmidt finished with 28 saves.
Windom Area 1-0-2 = 3
Minnesota River 1-1-2 = 4
The Windom Area girls hockey team took a lead in the third period, but Minnesota River tied the game with just under seven minutes to play.
Then, with just two seconds left on the clock, the Bulldogs’ Anna Pavlo scored an unassisted goal, giving Minnesota River a 4-3 win over the Eagles Friday in LeSueur.
Presley Dockter tied the game twice for the Eagles, scoring a goal in the first period, then tying the game at 2-2 early in the third.
Maddie Schumacher gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead with eight minutes to go in the game, scoring an unassisted goal.
But the Bulldogs tied the game with 6:25 on the clock, then scored the game winner with two seconds to go.
The Eagles outshot the Bulldogs 37-21 in the game. Goalie Bethany Schmidt finished with 17 saves.
