Fairmont 39-35 = 74
Windom 40-33 = 73
For the second straight week, the Windom Eagle boys basketball team was stung at the final buzzer.
Abe McKibbin hit a free throw with 10 seconds left, giving the Eagles a 73-72 lead. But Fairmont’s Zach Jorgenson put in a runner with two seconds left on the clock, lifting the Cardinals to a 74-73 victory at Windom.
The Eagles held a 40-39 halftime lead, but foul trouble in the post opened the door for the Cardinals to attack the basket in the second half.
Fairmont grabbed a five-point lead early in the second half, but the Eagles answered, tying the game at 55-55 and 61-61.
The game was back and forth late, but an 8-of-17 night from the free throw line by the Eagles kept the door open for Fairmont. The Eagles went 7-of-14 from the line in the second half.
Down the stretch, a basket by Conner Redman tied the game at 72. McKibbin then made 4-of-6 from the line in the final minutes, giving the Eagles a one-point lead before Jorgenson’s game-winner.
Redman led the Eagles with 26 points. McKibbin added 20 in the loss.
