Eagles rally past Fairmont Tuesday

The Windom Area girls hockey team scored in the closing seconds of the second period, then got an insurance goal in the opening seconds of the third, to claim a 4-2 win at Fairmont Tuesday.

Fairmont struck first, scoring a pair of power play goals in the second period for a 2-0 lead.

The Eagles answered, scoring 16 seconds after Fairmont’s last goal. Lyvia McManigle intercepted a clearing attempt and found the back of the net, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

Then, with 26 seconds left in the second period, the Eagles tied the game when Presley Dockter took a feed from Marissa Becker and fired a shot into the net. Windom Area took the lead with just five seconds left in the second period when Becker knocked in a rebound, assisted by Dockter and Elly Bang.

Then, 11 seconds into the third period, Bang gave the Eagles a two-goal lead, slamming home a shot off assists from Presley Dockter and Ella Dockter.

The Eagles outshot Fairmont 44-22 in the game. Goalie Kaylie Baerg finished with 20 saves.
