Charger girls surge past Coyotes

The Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls basketball team erased an early seven-point deficit Tuesday, surging to a 53-41 win over Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda at Westbrook.

HLOF jumped to a quick lead, but the Chargers pounded the ball inside in the first half, eventually taking a four-point halftime lead.

WWG’s strong interior play continued in the second half, and the Chargers were able to outscore the Coyotes 16-8 from the free throw line in the game.

Olivia Klumper paced WWG with 17 points. Beth Byers added 12 points in the win.

RRC 26-41 = 67

Red Rock Central’s offense hit high gear in the second half Tuesday night as the Falcons blitzed Murray County Central 67-37 in Lamberton.

The Falcons held an eight-point halftime lead, but turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, forcing 29 MCC turnovers in the game. Those turnovers led to fast break scoring chances.

Karli Arkell paced the Falcons with 23 points. Nicole Schroepfer scored 11 and Lilly Stavnes added 10.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey had a rough night on offense Tuesday, taking a 36-32 loss to Adrian-Ellsworth at Adrian.

The Wolverines shot just 25% from the field, missed all five of their free throw attempts in the game and had 22 turnovers in the loss.

Anika Fast led MLAC with 17 points. Brooke Naas added 10 points.
