A strong first half allowed Red Rock Central to build a lead and the Falcon girls were able to stave off a late rally Thursday, defeating Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey 60-52 at Comfrey.
RRC hit four first-half three-pointers and was able to build a 20-9 lead early in the game. The Falcons held a 10-point halftime advantage.
In the second half, the Wolverines got hot from outside. Brooke Naas drained three of MLAC’s four second-half treys, leading the Wolverines back to within four points with four minutes to go.
But down the stretch, the Falcons went 9-of-14 from the free throw line to preserve the victory.
Nicole Schroepfer led RRC with 17 points. Karli Arkell added 16 and Lilly Stavnes scored 12 in the win.
Naas led the Wolverines with 20 points, including five three-pointers. Anika Fast chipped in 15 points.Â
