Local readers taking part in Food, Farm Book Week

Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom will host its first-ever Minnesota Farm and Food Book Week, an opportunity for classrooms across Minnesota to see and hear virtual agriculture-themed books read by special guest readers, including two individuals who live or have ties to Cottonwood County.

Michelle (Mickelson) Weber, a 2006 graduate of Windom Area High School, is a well-known Minnesota author and illustrator who is on the list. Joining her is 2020 Mt. Lake High School graduate Emilee Xayanourom, who is the Minnesota FFA vice president. They are two of 16 readers taking part over four days.

Xayanourom will read “Anywhere Farm” at 2 p.m., today (Wednesday), while Weber will read “Harvey — A Ranch Birthday” at 1 p.m., Thursday.

Classrooms can join online at multiple times through Friday as readers present stories throughout each day related to farming and food.

To register and for more information about the lineup, including times and books, visit the MAITC website (https://minnesota.agclassroom.org/programs/book/).

To learn about other readers participating in the reading series, see the story in the Feb. 17 issue of the Cottonwood County Citizen, on newsstands tomorrow.
