Windom third in Luverne speech tournament

Windom’s speech team opened the season with a third-place finish in the Luverne Cardinal Tournament, hosted virtually by Luverne High School.

All teams submitted recordings of their students prior to Saturday’s tournament. The students’ recorded speeches were forwarded to judges, who judged the categories from their homes.

However, several draw categories were done live on Saturday from each students’ respective schools through a speech social media platform. Those included discussion, extemporaneous reading and speaking, and storytelling.

Windom finished with 34 points, behind meet champion Tracy-Milroy-Balaton, which finished with 46 points; and runner-up Murray County Central’s 39 points. Although the hosts do not figure in the team sweepstakes, Luverne finished with 42 points.

Windom had one champion, senior Allison Letcher, who won original oratory.

To learn how other Windom speakers did in Saturday’s virtual tournament, see the story in the Feb. 17 issue of the Cottonwood County Citizen on newsstands Wednesday.
