BREAKING: Wormstadt is superintendent finalist at school in Gilbert, Iowa

Citizen Online has learned that Windom Superintendent Wayne Wormstadt is one of three finalists for the Gilbert (Iowa) Community School District superintendent position.

A selection is expected to be announced sometime after a final interview, on Feb. 17. The Gilbert Community School District has an enrollment of 1,574 and is located just north of Ames, Iowa.

Wormstadt became Windom’s superintendent of schools in the summer of 2008. He came from Canistota, S.D., where he had been superintendent since 2004.

Wormstadt arrived at a time when Windom’s school faced financial difficulties and he served as a stabilizing force, helping it turn the corner toward a more positive future.

In a letter to staff this evening, Wormstadt said:
“After quite a bit of deliberation and with my daughter graduating, I realized this year would be an opportunity to look at select career opportunities. The Gilbert position is a rare opportunity for my family and career that does not come open very often.
“Nothing is final and I remain committed to making the Windom School District the best place it can be for students, staff and community, as I have done for 13 years.”
