County wrapping up first dose of Phase 1a vaccinations

There’s good news when it comes to vaccinations in Cottonwood and Jackson counties.

According to Evelyn Schaeffer, Des Moines Valley Health and Human Services public health director, all people in the two counties who fall into Phase 1a and wanted the COVID-19 vaccination, will have gotten their first dose by the end of this week.

That group includes the following populations: hospitals, long-term care facilities (skilled nursing facilities/nursing homes, assisted living facilities), emergency medical services personnel, firefighters, police, COVID-19 testers, COVID-19 community vaccinators, therapy practitioners, home health nurses and aides, dentists, veterinarians, morticians, pharmacists and technicians, correctional staff, group home staff and residents, public health nurses, adult residents and staff of intermediate care facilities for intellectual disabilities, and other adult residents living in residential care facilities licensed in Minnesota.

Schaeffer noted that there is vaccine available for those people to get their second dose.
