Winter storm watch issued for Thursday into Friday

The unseasonable weather Southwest Minnesota has seen in recent weeks could be coming to an abrupt end Thursday and Friday, as the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch, extending from Thursday evening into Friday.

According to the NWS, a winter storm with rain changing to snow is expected to move into the region during the day Thursday. Increased winds Thursday afternoon through the evening could make travel difficult and dangerous, with the possibility of whiteout conditions and blowing and drifting snow.

The watch stated that 3 to 9 inches of snow is projected for the watch area. A more precise projection is expected later in the day today as forecasters have more of an idea of when the change from rain to snow will occur.
