Violet Hudson

Violet (Gleason) Hudson, 102, of Mankato, formerly of Windom, died May 22, 2018, at Laurels Peak Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.
Funeral services were Saturday at St. John's Episcopal Church in Mankato.
Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in rural Windom.
Mankato Mortuary of Mankato handled the funeral arrangements.
Violet Elizabeth Gleason was born Feb. 3, 1916, to Walter Orrin and Emma (Wendt) Gleason in Springfield. She was the seventh of 12 children. She lived with her family in Currie before graduating from Tracy High School in 1933.
She continued her education at Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, graduating as a registered nurse.
While in Rochester, she met her husband Richard "Dick" Hudson and were married shortly thereafter.
Violet became a mother to their son, Gary, in 1939 and Richard became a Highway Patrolman. They were stationed in several communities before moving to Windom in 1945.
In the early 1950s, Violet went back to work at the Windom Hospital, serving as hospital administrator for more than 10 years. Vi and Dick continued living in Windom while spending summer vacations in Northern Minnesota, Colorado and the Western mountain states.
Dick retired from the State Patrol after 32 years, but continued to work as a dispatcher for Jackson County until his death in 1983.
Violet continued living in Windom until 1998, when she moved to Mankato to be closer to her son's family.
Her last years were spent at Laurels Peak Nursing Home in Mankato.
In addition to her husband Dick, Vi was preceded in death by her 11 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her son, Gary (Helen) Hudson of Mankato; three grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
