Gladys Scurr

Gladys L. Scurr, 91, of Windom, formerly of Mt. Lake, died May 14, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 2 p.m., at American Lutheran Church in Windom with Pastor Sarah Larsen Tade officiating.
Interment will be at Mt. Lake City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday at the church for one hour prior to the service.
Sturm Funeral Home of Mt. Lake is handling the funeral arrangements.
Gladys Lorraine Steinhauser was born Aug. 29, 1926, to Fred and Aganetha (Nettie) Steinhauser. She graduated from Mt. Lake Public School in 1944.
Gladys was baptized at Bethel Mennonite Church in Mt. Lake in 1944. When she moved to Windom, she joined American Lutheran Church in 1960 and remained a member there.
After graduation, Gladys attended Minneapolis Business School and completed a course in junior accounting. She worked for Emma Sammoss, County Superintendent of Schools in Windom.
After the death of her mother in 1950, Gladys returned home to care for her father and brother, Harold. After her brother graduated, she worked at the Natural Gas Company of Mt. Lake and Windom.
In 1961, Gladys married John E. Scurr of Bingham Lake. They adopted a son, Douglas, and later a daughter, Kimberly. In 1973, they moved to a farmstead south of Mt. Lake.
In 1979, Gladys began working in the housekeeping and dietary departments at Good Samaritan Society-The Village in Mt. Lake, positions she held for 13 years. She also enjoyed several volunteer jobs.
After her husband John, died in 1995, Gladys moved to Laker Apartments in 1996, but continued her volunteer work, assisting others with daily routines.
Her family was important to her and she enjoyed attending her grandchildren's school and Sunday School programs.
In addition to her husband John, Gladys was preceded in death by three brothers: Carl (Fran) Steinhauser, Ervin (Bonnie) Steinhauser and Fred Steinhauser.
Survivors include her children, Doug (Theresa) Scurr of Rosemount and Kimberly Sellnow of Groveland, Fla; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Harold (Estella) Steinhauser.
