Merton Weber

Merton Weber, 88, of Lakefield died May 13, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society-The Village in Mt. Lake.
A Celebration of Life service was Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Lakefield with Pastors Carolyn Doering and Kathy Brandt officiating.
Special music was provided by Mary Stegemann, organist.
Casket bearers were Todd Weber, Troy Weber, Nathan Hay, Darrell Nissen, Marv Appel and Terry Weber.
Burial with full military honors was at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lakefield.
Merton A. Weber was born Jan. 16, 1930, to Alfred W. and Agusta (Ell) Weber in Hunter Township of Jackson County. He started farming at age 15, following the death of his father, and farmed until the land was sold.
Mert then became a carpenter, working with his brother, Roger, building and repairing area barns. Mert also did some construction work.
Mert served in the Korean War until being discharged.
In 1961, he married Eunice Wilson. They ran the "Squeeze Inn" cafe in Lakefield before Eunice's death in 1996.
Mert was the head usher at Lakefield United Methodist Church for many years. He also served in many other capacities within the church and never wanted to miss Sunday worship.
Mert enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially fox with his greyhound and going "up north" to hunt deer and to Montana to hunt elk. He also enjoyed puzzles, playing computer games and watching Westerns on TV. He especially loved gardening and flowers and had a garden as long as he was able to live in his own home.
A highlight of Mert's year was spending time, especially holidays, with his niece, Lori, and her family and with his brother, Roger.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice; a brother, Orville; and a sister, Verna Mae.
Survivors include his brother, Roger Weber of Lakefield; and his stepsons.
