Berniece Olson, 85, of Storden died Jan. 24, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society in Westbrook.
A Celebration of Life service will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden with Pastor Marcille Jensen officiating.
Special music will be provided by Elizabeth Johnson, organist and vocalist.
Casket bearers will be Berniece's family.
Interment will be at Jeffers Cemetery in rural Jeffers.
Visitation will be held today at the church for one hour prior to the service.
LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom is handling the funeral arrangements.
Berniece Garnet Carter was born Jan. 6, 1933, to Harley S. and Anna E. (Carter) Carter in Jeffers. She was baptized and later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers.
Berniece received her early education in Red Rock Country School before completing her education at Jeffers High School.
In 1949, Berniece married Albert Messenbrink. The marriage was later dissolved.
In 1982, Berniece married Eugene Olson in Sleepy Eye. Eugene died in 1993.
Berniece worked at various jobs in Storden and Westbrook throughout her life.
For the past four years, she has been a resident at Good Samaritan Society in Westbrook.
Berniece enjoyed visiting, spending time with family, playing cards and fishing.
She also was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden.
In addition to her husband Eugene Olson, Berniece was preceded in death by a daughter, Leslie Hofstadter; a grandson, Adam Messenbrink; a daughter-in-law, Linda Sue Messenbrink; and seven sisters: Lorayne Caauwe, Barbara Hartwick, Marjorie Smith, Iris Knutson, Dawn Schmidt, June Cook and Joye Heckert.
Survivors include her two sons, Thomas Messenbrink Sr. and special friend, Gail Ann Hartle, of Avoca and Scott (Judy) Messenbrink of Pine, Colo.; a son-in-law, Leo Hofstadter; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Curt (Gerri) Carter of Jeffers.
