Byron "Bike" Richter, 81, of Windom died Dec. 23, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society in Jackson.
A Celebration of Life service was Saturday at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom with Pastor Paul Sajban officiating.
Special music was provided by Linda Staples, organist; and the Byron Richter family, vocalists.
Casket bearers were Byron's grandsons.
Honorary bearers were Byron's granddaughters.
Burial was at Delafield Township Cemetery in rural Windom.
LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom handled the funeral arrangements.
Byron "Bike" E. Richter was born July 22, 1936, to Herman A. and Irma Amalia (Dunse) Richter in Windom. He was baptized as an infant and later confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in rural Lakefield.
He graduated from Lakefield High School in 1954.
In 1957, Byron married Darlene Ann Meyer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster. They lived in rural Windom where they ran their family farm until retiring in 1999.
After Darlene's death in 2006, Byran remained on the farm until 2014, when he became a resident of Good Samaritan Society in Jackson.
Byron was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom, where he served as a trustee, elder and usher.
He also was a 12-year member of the Delafield Township board, a nine-year member of the Jackson County ASCS committee and served on the Jackson County Variance board, Windom Co-Op Elevator board and Prairieland Cooperative board.
He also delivered Meals on Wheels for several years.
Byron enjoyed fishing, both locally and in Alaska and Canada; deer and pheasant hunting; and playing cards with family and friends.
In addition to his wife Darlene, Byron was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Wayne Schroeder; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Voss.
Survivors include his three daughters and son: Teresa (Joseph) Rosengarten of Eau Claire, Wis.; Diane (Morteza) Zand of Colorado Springs, Colo.; David (Juanita) Richter of Des Moines, Iowa; and Shelley (Jeff) Lange of Windom; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two siblings, Buddie (Sylvia) Richter of Brewster and Suz Schroeder of Red Lake Falls; special friend, Myrna Anderson of Windom; and two brothers-in-law, Ronald Meyer of Worthington and Ned Voss of LaCrosse, Wis.
