Lillie Brodin, 84, of Windom died Sept. 3, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society in Jackson.
A Celebration of Life Service was Thursday at American Lutheran Church in Windom with Pastor Gene Alms officiating.
Special music was provided by Karen Wojahn, organist; and Lillie's grandchildren and great-grandchildren, vocalists.
Casket bearers were Lillie's grandchildren: Sarah Beaver, Brandon Brodin, Bridget Bass, Drew Birdsall, Jessica Ahern, Katie Wolters, Alyssa Enge and Gracie Ahern.
Interment was at Delafield Township Cemetery in rural Windom.
LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom handled the funeral arrangements.
Lillie Ardell Olson was born Sept. 22, 1932, to J. Victor and Bernice Pearl (Huber) Olson in Mt. Lake. She received her education in Mt. Lake Public Schools, graduating in 1950.
Lillie was baptized in Mt. Lake and later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Lake.
In 1951, Lillie married Vernon Brodin at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Lake. They lived in Dothan, Ala., until Vern was sent overseas. When he was honorably discharged from military service, Vern and Lillie took over the family farm in Delafield Township in Jackson County.
In addition to helping Vern on the farm, Lillie also was a secretary for IDS, church secretary at Delafield Lutheran Church for 35 years and a clerk at the Old Country Store in rural Windom.
In 1989, Lillie and Vern began spending several months each winter in Apache Junction, Ariz., where they enjoyed playing pinochle.
After Vern's death in 2001, Lillie continued living on the farm and with family until moving to care facilities in Mt. Lake, Spencer, Iowa, and finally Good Samaritan Society in Jackson.
A longtime member of Delafield Lutheran Church in rural Windom until its closing, Lillie served as a Sunday School teacher, a Junior Lutheran leader and a member of Luther League and ladies aide. She then became a member of American Lutheran Church in Windom.
She also was a Delafield Digger 4-H leader, a member of the snowmobile club, CB Club and card club.
Lillie enjoyed hosting guests at their place on Fish Lake for more than 50 years and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Vern, Lillie was preceded in death by a son, Craig Brodin; brothers: Larry, Raymond, Orville "Fuzzy" and Marlin Olson; and a sister, Arnoldine "Arnie" Bay.
Survivors include her two children: Cheryl (Kevin) Ahern of Spencer, Iowa; and Sue (late Craig) Brodin of Jackson; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Boldt of Mt. Lake; and sisters-in-law, Sharon Hoffman of Lindsborg, Kan.; and Lorraine Olson of Mankato.
