Robert 'Bob' Malone
Robert "Bob" Malone passed away in Pasadena, Calif., on Aug. 8, 2017. He was a resident of San Marino, Calif., for over 40 years.
Bob was born on Sept. 9, 1928, in Windom to Margaret (nee Montgomery) and Maurice "Pat" Malone. He and his infant sister Mary ("Mimi") moved from Windom to South Pasadena, Calif., in 1934 after their mother died unexpectedly. Bob and Mimi had a wonderful childhood being raised by their loving aunt, Ethel Malone.
He returned to Windom for two years, 1946-48, and worked at Silliman Motor Company, owned by his stepmother's family. He visited the area every few years after his children were grown as his family owned farmland in the county.
Bob graduated from South Pas-San Marino High School and from USC, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.
He was a past member of the Solteros, Valley Club, San Gabriel Country Club and The Valley Hunt Club. He was a past president of the SM Little League and helped paved the way for girls to play in the League.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and was stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco.
He enjoyed a successful career in the insurance industry at both National American Insurance and Western General Agency.
He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Jane Lynn Malone.
He is survived by his daughters: Karen Ottoson (Brad), Cayce Sheppard (Don), Colleen Amour (Scott), and Kelly Helmuth-Malone (Ron); and son, Bob Malone, Jr.; his sisters-in-law, Lyda Lynn Pearson and Ollie Rados Lynn; and his aunt, Helen Malone. He was grandfather to seven: Josh and Matt Ottoson (Katie), Malone and Morgan Sheppard (Jordan Sukys), Ethan Amour, and Lilly and Holly Helmuth-Malone.
A service was held on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at 11 a.m., at Sunrise Chapel, Mountain View Cemetery in Altadena, Calif.
A celebration of Bob's life followed.
