Ralph Poynter, 79, of Windom died May 6, 2017, at Windom Area Hospital in Windom.
A Celebration of Life service will be held today (Wednesday) at 10:30 a.m., at American Lutheran Church in Windom with Pastor Gene Alms officiating.
Special music was provided by Carol Vought, organist.
Casket bearers were Loren Anderson, Mikal Anderson, Cody Zimmer, Jerod Zimmer, Paul Marsh and Chad Kutzbach.
Honorary bearers were Ralph's grandchildren: Kennedy, Mikal and Jace Anderson.
Interment with full military honors provided by Windom American Legion Post 206 was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in rural Windom.
Visitation was Tuesday and continues today at the church for one hour prior to the service.
LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom is handling the funeral arrangements.
Ralph Arnold Poynter was born July 9, 1937, to Robert and Frieda (Kiputh) Poynter in Fergus Falls. He attended school in Fergus Falls and Ashby.
After completing his formal education, Ralph moved to Wendell where he worked at a beef farm until enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. After serving his country honorably, he was later discharged and returned to Wendell.
In 1961, Ralph married Mary Jensen in Fergus Falls. They lived in Wendell, where their first child, Robert, was born. He died three years later.
Ralph and Mary lived in Kerkhoven for a short time, where Ralph worked for Simmonds Produce and Midwest Cylinders.
They moved to Windom where Ralph was employed by Windom Ready Mix, then Ag-Chem in Jackson, where he worked until his retirement.
Ralph was a longtime member of American Lutheran Church in Windom.
He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed the outdoors, raising flowers, fishing and grilling.
In addition to his son, Robert "Robbi" Poynter, Ralph was preceded in death by four siblings: Irene, Warren, David and Leroy; and a sister-in-law, Delores Poynter.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Poynter of Windom; two children, Chad (Beth) Poynter of Hopkins and Jennifer (Loren) Anderson of Windom; three grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Poynter of St. Cloud.
