Fay Berkness, 83, of Crystal, formerly of Windom, died March 31, 2017, at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.
Funeral services were Monday at American Lutheran Church in Windom with Pastor Gene Alms officiating.
Special music was provided by Carol Vought, organist.
Casket bearers were Dean Bixenman, Steven Hussong, Gregg Borgstrom, Brent Beaulieu, Tim McGroarty and Zachary Hartog.
Honorary bearers were Roger Wehmeyer, Charles Schneider, Ralph Wehmeyer, Dale Wehmeyer, Brad Hartog and Jon Beaulieu.
Burial was at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom.
LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom handled the funeral arrangements.
Fay E. Wehmeyer was born Feb. 8, 1934, to Herman and Violet (Thomas) Wehmeyer in Melvin, Iowa. She received her education in Storden Public Schools, graduating in 1952.
In 1953, Fay married Edward P. Foley in Sanborn, Iowa. They were blessed with two sons, David and Edward, before Edward's death in 1958.
In 1960, Fay married Orville Berkness at Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden. They were blessed with four daughters: Vicki, Lisa, Stefanie and Heather. Fay and Orville lived in Windom where Fay worked at various places in Windom until retiring.
Recently, Fay and Orville moved to Crystal to be closer to family and friends.
Fay was a member of American Lutheran Church in Windom, American Legion Auxiliary Post 206 and the Eagles Auxiliary.
She enjoyed golf (she had two holes-in-one), bowling, playing cards, cross-stitch, gardening, reading, cooking, the color purple, circle word and crossword puzzles, socializing and, most of all, spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Emma; and a sister, Ruby (Jack) Roberts.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Orville Berkness of Crystal; six children: David (Cheryl) Foley of North Branch; Edward (Margee) Foley of Yuba City, Calif.; Vicki Hartog (Brad) of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; Lisa Berkness of Lakewood, Colo.; Stefanie (Jon) Beaulieu of Coon Rapids; and Heather Berkness (fiance Brian Barrett) of Crystal; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister and three brothers: Fern (Charles) Schneider of Crystal; Roger Wehmeyer of Phoenix, Ariz.; Ralph (Gerri) Wehmeyer of Lakefield; and Dale (JoAnne) Wehmeyer of Westbrook.
