Wilma Sogge, 98, of Windom died March 6, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom.
A Celebration of Life service was Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Windom with Pastor Mike McInnis officiating.
Special music was provided by Deann Steele, organist.
Casket bearers were Joel Broveleit, Jerry Sorum, Jeff Peabody, Darin Sogge, Chuck Wiseman and David Sogge.
Honorary bearers were Jeff Sogge, Rachelle Broveleit, Rebecca Sorum, Rhona Reabody, Megan Wiseman, Lowell Behrens and staff of Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom.
Interment was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in rural Windom.
LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom handled the funeral arrangements.
Wilma Ruth Newcomer was born Sept. 6, 1918, to William Andrew and Ruth Opal (Wise) Newcomer in Heron Lake. She attended school in Heron Lake and graduated from Heron Lake High School in 1936.
After graduating, she worked for different families, once baby-sitting for the Mondale family in Heron Lake and caring for future vice-president Walter.
In 1942, Wilma married Albin Benny Sogge at the Methodist Church in Windom. When Albin was deployed for four years while in the service, Wilma spent time working in the Cities.
Wilma worked at B&B Grocery Store and later at The Chocolate Shop in Windom. In 1960, Wilma and Albin bought The Green Lantern Cafe. It closed in 1969 and Wilma began working for Fingerhut. Before retiring, she was employed with Gordy's in Windom.
Following Albin's death in 2006, Wilma moved to Hillside Manor and in 2011 became a resident of Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial.
A lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Windom, she also was a member of the Women's Guild and enjoyed helping in the church office.
Wilma also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and baking. She and Albin also enjoyed traveling and taking afternoon drives. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, Albin, Wilma was preceded in death by brothers: Valdon, Marvin and Alfred Newcomer; and sisters: Josephine Johnson, Loris Creel and infant sister, Annabelle.
Survivors include her children: David (Diane) Sogge of Watertown, S.D.; and Donna (Lowell) Behrens of Brookings, S.D.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Viola Winkel of Windom.
