Mavis Ratzlaff

Mavis Ratzlaff, 90, of Windom died Feb. 20, 2017, at Windom Area Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom with Father Patrick Arens officiating.
Special music was provided by Colleen Ortmann, organist; and Mike Foley, vocalist.
Lectors were Kathy Ratzlaff and Karen Dittmar. Gift bearers were MaryAnn Meyer and Viola Weber.
Casket bearers were Mavis' grandchildren: Joel Dittmar, Amy (Dittmar) Jacobson, Krysta Dittmar, Michael Ratzlaff, Tanya Ratzlaff, Richard Ratzlaff, Travis Knutson, Kevin Knutson, Brent Knutson, Kyle Knutson, Andrew Ratzlaff, Natalie Ratzlaff, Cody Johnson and Zachary Johnson.
Interment was at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Windom.
Parish Prayers were Friday at LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom, which handled the funeral arrangements.
Mavis Anna Vandermoon was born Feb. 11, 1927, to Earl and Margaret (Backus) Vandermoon in Jeffers. She was baptized and later confirmed at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Jeffers. Mavis received her education in Jeffers Public Schools, graduating in 1945.
In 1946, Mavis married Herbert Ratzlaff at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Jeffers. They lived in Windom, where Mavis worked as a waitress at List's Bakery and the Driftwood Steak House before becoming a custodian at Windom Area High School, a job she held until retiring in 1992.
After Herb's death in 2009, Mavis continued living in her home in Windom.
A longtime member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom, Mavis was a member of the Council of Catholic Women. She also was a member of the Eagle and American Legion auxiliaries.
Her faith was important to her.
She also enjoyed playing cards with her sisters and traveling to Jackpot Junction.
In addition to her husband Herb Ratzlaff, Mavis was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Don Dittmar; and four brothers: Clement, Richard, Vernon and Leslie Vandermoon.
Survivors include her six children: Karen Dittmar of Beloit, Wis.; Mark (Doris) Ratzloff of Columbia, S.C.; Kathy Ratzlaff of Windom; Joanne (Mark) Knutson of Lakeville; Stephen (Lynn) Ratzlaff of Ankeny, Iowa; and Mary (Mike) Johnson of Lake Crystal; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four sisters: Ann (Richard) Jordan and Ramona Jordan, all of Minneapolis; MaryAnn Meyer and Viola Weber, both of Jeffers.
